To successfully work with adolescents as they prepare for self-sufficiency, caseworkers and caregivers must first understand adolescent development issues associated with moving from childhood to adulthood. They need to identify the developmental challenges commonly observed in adolescents in foster care, and meet these challenges with appropriate strategies and interventions. PDP training builds participants' knowledge and skills so they can effectively promote and support adolescents in their physical, cognitive, social, moral and emotional development, and relate developmental progress to self-sufficiency goals and efforts.
